Pastor Wesley Szamko
I love those signs that have arrows pointing in a bunch of directions, each promising exotic places yet warning of imposing distances. Somehow I get the notion that I am in a significant place. It is as if where I stand is just as worthy to be posted as all the other glamorous locals. I also am impressed with the possibility of new adventures and, equally, daunted with the task of what it would take to get there.
This past year held many changes for my wife, Ivonne, and I: our first child, a new ministry, a new home, new friends. But whether they are major life changes or merely simple choices, all have their impact. In James 3 we are told of how even a few simple words are significant, like turning the rudder on a mighty sailing ship. During the moments in which we contemplate our words, actions, and decisions, we figuratively stand at one of those crossroads gazing at a signpost. We are determining the next stretch of our life’s journey.
So what about your signposts? Have you seen the signs that speak of the life promises God holds out to you? Are you daunted by the distance, or emboldened by the possibilities? Perhaps there are a few warning signs as well. In your rush to arrive at the next destination have you overlooked them?
