The building committee looked at several church designs, and found a church in Camrose, Alberta that it liked. The engineering firm that had designed the church designed a similar one to fit the Edmonton South’s lot. The church members accepted the proposal and construction commenced in September 1981 when Al Johnston, an experienced church builder, from B.C., was hired to build the church. He hired a couple experienced carpenters and used all the volunteer labour the church could supply. Each Sunday there was a good sized group of volunteers but few during the week. Even so, because of good fall weather the church went up fast and was fully enclosed before the cold weather and snow came. After that, much of the interior work was done in the evenings by volunteers. Construction was complete in time for the first church service to be held on April 3, 1982, the eleventh anniversary of the church’s inception. The cost of the lot, church building, and interest on loans for the building was just under $500,000. The entire amount was paid off in 9 years from the decision to proceed with obtaining a church. Approximately ninety percent of the amount was contributed by the members of Edmonton South with the remaining 10% coming from the Alberta Conference and church members in Alberta. In 1987 the church was enhanced with the purchase of a Rodgers 740B church organ and the installation of the accompanying speakers above the church platform and at the rear of the sanctuary, at a cost of $34,000. The local organ supplier, an architect, designed the speaker system and assisted with the installation of the organ and speakers. In 2000 a 6’5”grand piano was purchased for the church at a cost of $28,980.00. This required the redesign of the platform (done in 2000). The “sound room” redesign (in 2001) further enhanced the functionality of the church.
